Today the children really enjoyed working on the Clifford's Big Birthday App with their iPad friend.
Here are a few things the students reported that they enjoyed about this App: "It was fun decorating Clifford’s dog house for Clifford's party." "I liked tapping on Clifford to get him to blow out the birthday candles." "Making words on the skeeball game was fun" "I liked breaking the piñata and matching words to the toys" "There are words to read along the way and surprises all over this app." "The party music is really good - it made me want to dance!" One of my favorite things about this app was how well the children worked together to take turns and happily share the different tasks. The other part that I enjoyed was seeing the children get up and dance to the Birthday song, on the app, after we put the iPads away. All of the children had some pretty awesome dance moves! (I wish you could have seen that - it was totally PRECIOUS!!) Exercise helps our brains too after sitting for a while! If you are interested in getting this app for home, Scholastic has a free download available at the following link: http://www.scholastic.com/apps/clifford/birthday/ Be sure to click on the red oval on the right to get the free app (instead of clicking on the "purchase" button). The Kindergartners were awesome again at Mass today! I am so proud of the way they have been singing and participating with the Mass each week. They sing like angels & it brings me such joy to sit with them! I have been able to REALLY focus on praying at Mass, when we go together ~ because they have been behaving so wonderfully. Today's Mass was lead by Bishop Piche. He had a great Homily on how children can be messengers of Christ every day. (We are very lucky to share our faith together, here at St. John's school!) It was fun to have Bishop Piche visit our classroom after Mass. He even had a little snack with us! Today was Clifford, the Big Red Dog's 50th Birthday. We took the opportunity to celebrate this special occasion. We watched Scholastic Book's live party webcast from New York while we did our morning activities. The Mayor of New York even proclaimed the day as Clifford The Big Red Dog Day. We got to hear some children ask Norman Bridwell (Clifford's creator) some interesting questions. Our class joined in with approximately 5,000 classrooms kids all around the country, and sang Happy Birthday to Clifford. Later we had a special treat of Dog Bones (crackers) for snack. After our snack & Clifford stories, the children drew a picture of Clifford and worked on a Kid Writing activity. I am very proud of the work the children are doing! Our color word of the day was ... red! Do you know Clifford's '10 Big Ideas' for making the world a better place?
