This week I had the children work in small groups to illustrate the Last Supper. Their drawings turned out cute. The conversations they had as they worked were amazing. The children discussed many different things that they thought may have been happening at the Last Supper. On group drew Mary peeking through the window with tears running down her face because "she was so sad about how some people were being so mean to her son". It touched my heart to see how thoughtful they were being about what they were drawiing. We also spent time working on some Math Easter Egg Stations. The children enjoyed "chick addition" & sorting eggs to see which numbers could be shared or divided by 2. (They love getting their pictures taken when they are working so hard!!) Happy Easter!!

Due to the wonderful & generous donations of many people at our "Bright Beginnings Bash" Fundraiser in February, St. John's was able to purchase 5 Ipads for our school. We have been using them in our classroom. It has been fun seeing how the children are so naturally using them & benefitting from the educational experiences they offer. We even used "Face Time" with the first grade class to see if they could figure out what was in the mystery box. Technology certainly opens the doors to many exciting things - we can not wait to use these ipads more after spring break!
I am so proud of the children for the wonderful job they did leading today's school Mass. Everyone had a special job. The readers really were fantastic! It is so fun to see these tiny children up there reading & enjoying every minute of it! Thanks to our families for helping the children practice their parts at home. ( I tried to get a few photos of the children in action on this important day! )
Today we had a special helper in our classroom. Julia is on spring break from Benilde and volunteered to come back to Kindergarten & help me out for the day. It seems like just yesterday she was a student in my classroom. It was wonderful having her back! She was extremely helpful & the children enjoyed her time with us! Thanks Julia for sharing your time & talents with us!
Today we got to wear green to school as an early St. Patrick's Day treat. We talked about what makes us feel lucky. We also practiced reading & singing a poem about a leprechaun. Click on the video below: We did a guided drawing lesson this week to practice following directions &
help us think about the different lines and shapes used to draw a leprechaun. Here are a few of the children's leprechaun drawings. Some of the others "ran away" before I could get a copy of them. They were pretty cute too!! Great job Kindergarten artists! ~*~ (click on a picture to see it better!) We made sacrifice beads on Tuesday to help us keep track of the good deeds or sacrifices we are doing during lent to grow closer to God. The children did an excellent job stringing the beads- it was a little tricky at first but they really figured it out quickly!!
(These beads can also be used when praying a decade of the Rosary!) The Kindergarten students learned a lot & had so much fun getting ready for, and performing, our Kindergarten Circus. The children all did such an outstanding job from start to finish. I am very proud of the ways that they worked together and did their very best job! After our circus we were having a little "reflection time" talking about what we thought went well. I asked each child to tell me something that made them feel proud while they were doing their performance. I was completely blown away by the things they said to each other!! Most of the children said how proud they were of another student for the neat things they noticed someone else do during our show. For 5 & 6 year olds to be so aware & considerate to complement each other on a job well done was very precious. What an awesome group of children I have in my class ~ I am so lucky!
We hope all of our family & friends who were able to make it to our Circus enjoyed our songs and acts. Here is a peek at some photos I took before our performance. |
